Rinus van alebeek// Pelayo Arrizabalaga

Rinus Van Alebeek is a writer, sound artist and performer born in The Netherlands in 1956. He has published two books in his native country under the pseudonym of Philip Markus, the first of which, published in 1991, was awarded best first novel.

His approach to musical improvisation is seen as radical, based on sounds captured on his travels in and outside Europe. Rinus Van Alebeek records, composes and performs with analogue equipment. During his concerts he mixes tapes thus creating powerful lo-fi sound collages between noise and pure poetry.

The artistic biography of Rinus Van Alebeek is divided in two periods: prehistoric and historic. The prehistoric period stretches from the birth of the universe to the year 1989 a.C. The historic period starts in 1989 and is divided in three categories: literature, visual arts and sound art.

Pelayo Fernandez Arrizabalaga
Pelayo Arrizabalaga (born 1949, Laredo, Spain) is a sax and clarinet player and turntables composer. His career started in the 1970s playing in an assortment of Madrid free jazz ensembles. In 1984 he cofounded the experimental rock group Clónicos with Markus Breuss, recording a total of five albums and touring throughout Europe.

Arrizabalaga relocated to Switzerland in 1993 where he is guest composer at the electronic music Studio of the Bassel Conservatoire, directed by Thomas Kessler, and frequently performs within the improvised music scene.

Arrizabalaga is also a founding member of the FMOL Trio, an electronic free improvisation group, which takes its name from the FMOL virtual digital instrument, developed in 1997 by Trio member Sergi Jordà. He has also reunited with Markus Breuss in the Breuss Arrizabalaga Quintet, a jazz ensemble.

JD Zazie

Born in Bolzano, JD Zazie is an italian sound artist and recordist based in Berlin. Coming from a DJ and a radiophonic background JD Zazie has explored over the years different approaches of real-time manipulation on fixed recorded sound.

In her work she redefines DJ and electroacoustic activities. As a solo performer, in small groups or large ensembles she moves in an area which is constantly stretching the borders of what is supposed to be DJ mixing, free improvisation and composed music.
Intended as music instruments CDjs, turntables and mixer are her tools to mix the specific sound-sources she plays (mostly electronic music, electroacoustic music, musique concrète, field recordings and improvised music).
The typology of the sound-sources varies from already existing audio publications and sound effects, to self recorded audio files – as live-set and field-recordings -, to selected pre-mixed material. Juxtaposition, decontextualization, fragmentation, repetition, sonic texture, scratch and error are elements of the grammar adopted to relate, organize and rearrange the sound material following her “Äpfelzerstörer’s method”.

Mat Pogo

Born in Rome and resident in Berlin. In the 90’s he was one of the founder members of the Burp Enterprise collective and Jealousy Party, one of the most advanced musical units in Italy, mixing with personal touch soul, improv, avant rock, noise and error music.
In the years he developed his own language as a singer/voice-artist using his experience as a rock singer, an improviser and radio-artist where music, sounds, anecdotic and narrative elements fuse constantly.
Beside Jealousy Party other projects he’s currently involved are Pokemachine (w/Anders Hana), Penates(w/JD Zazie), B Unit (w/JD Zazie & Peter Schlewinski), duo collaborations with Ignaz Schick, Michael Renkel, Nicolas Wiese and DJ collective Sistemi Audiofobici Burp.
