BURP RENDEZ-VOUS This month Burp Enterprise collective will join the Altes Finanzamt collective for a special BURP Rendez-Vous.
On August the 4th in Altes Finanzamt in Neukölln, Berlin Mat Pogo and WJM of Jealousy Party will join JD Zazie and neapolitan boy wonder Sec_.
Cuts, manipulations, fast and furious synchopation, field-recordings, musique concrète degeneré…
Their meeting and collaboration is quite long-aged, but for the first time the four are going to play all together.

JEALOUSY PARTY After focusing the last months on setting up a live act in the original duo format featuring WJM and Mat Pogo and releasing with this personnel the Marchia Sodo ep for Burp Publications in the I Morsi series, the JP will spend the rest of the summer putting the final touch to his two new albums: Mercato Centrale (as an octet) – eventually coming out in October for Burp – and Relative Memory a collaborative album together with electroacoustic soundartist Nicolas Wiese. The album will be released on Absinth Records in Winter 2011/2012. On August the 7th a Relative Memory live set will be broadcasted by Brain Pussyfication, a radio show curated by Utku Tavil on Room 111.
September 17th JP as a trio with WJM, Pogo and Edoardo Ricci will partecipate to a special live event at the Bolognini Theater in Pistoia, Italy, together with Alessandro Fiori, Father Murphy, Rico of Uochi Toki, InFlux and Marco Smacchia. An Italian Tour at the end of october and the Relative Memory Tour for January /February 2012 are planned.

WJM will spend the month digging for samples and working on beats for future JP material, in Berlin she will record some solo stuff at the Modersohn Soul Limbo Studios with DJ Baba Giovanni Bauli as a producer.

MAT POGO and IGNAZ SCHICK did a thrilling european tour in june. They will meet again in Berlin to play in Mme Claude on August 15th sharing the evening with other two duos by Seiji Morimoto and Erin Sexton, Olivier Di Placido and Sec_. They will play again September 2nd and 3rd in Bern at Dampfzentrale

It’s on his way to be released by Le Petit Mignon a 7″ split with Pogo’s rhythm and noise duo POKEMACHINE together with Anders Hana. They will share sides with Treepeople (John Hegre, Morten J Olsen and Ignaz Schick)

SQUARCICATRICI is working on the recordings made at La Scighera, Milano (thanks to Paolo Casati) to release a 6 tracks live EP. They have been invited to play at Magnolia Parade in Milan to share the stage with The Ex & Brass Unbound on september 3rd, 2011, and they have planned to record the new album during fall 2011.

The NIPOZZANZIBARISHE BIG BAND (featuring Scott Rosenberg, Renato Cordovani, Edoardo Ricci, Stefano Bartolini, Andrea Caprara, Francesco di Mauro, Cosimo Boni, Marco Baldini, Filippo Giuffré, Matteo Bennici, Piero Spitilli, WJ Meatball and Jacopo Andreini) condensed the Isola Cannon Jack recordings from the august 2010 session in an album of original compositions by Rosenberg and Andreini plus a  reinterpretation of a symphonic piece by Charles Mingus. The album could be released soon as T-Shirt with download code, or vinyl.

SHASH JIHAT will play in salento, confirmed gigs by now at the SCALO MERCI itinerant festival on august 23rd and i Sotterranei (Copertino) on 25th

JACOPO ANDREINI ended his new old-school solo album “Cogli Ossi” where he plays all the instruments, to be released by Frigorifero Prod. in september. Raphael Anker on trumpet from swiss-ethiopian band Imperial Tiger Orchestra, Edoardo Ricci on electronics and Piero Spitilli on contrabass are the guests for project. Jacopo’s compositions plus Marika Papagika’s “Bournovalio” and maroccan traditional “Jahjoukha”  are the dishes featured for this release.

TSIGOTI after the 4 weeks italian tour recorded 6 new tracks with new-entry bassist Piero Spitilli. The previous album (TheImaginationLiberationFrontThinksAgain), still officially unreleased, is in the hands of Thurston Moore, Nels Cline, Mike Watt, Bernard Stollmann to be heard and waiting to be properly released. The band planned another italian tour nov. 24th – dec 12th.

L’ENFANCE ROUGE just recorded the material for the next two albums at the Isola Cannon Jack studio in Nipozzano. A trio/quartet album with maroccan qanunist Samir Hammouch with the material they are playing on stage in the last year, including the new quartet material composed with Hammouch and sang by the whole band in arabic; then the pre-production versions of the music for the project with Lotfi Bouchnak to be arranged and recorded in Tunis

DEAR HEARTS garage’n'country’n'rockabilly’n'biscotti duo by Miss Lucky Haskins and Nicotina, after a short european visit went back too Brooklyn to play some concerts including an acoustic performance at strictly non veg fest Meatopia. It seems also that Miss Haskins recently joined Brooklyn’s new favorite all-girl rock band Party Lights. They will perform at Mercury Lounge Aug. 15.

A one-time band project just recorded a three days session at Isola Cannon Jack in Nipozzano: GI GASPARIN (Pangolinorchestra, Else, Gi Napajo) on voice, guitar and rantola orizzontale, TOMAJ (Detriti, Pangolinorchestra) on voice and piano, ANDREA CAPRARA on bass and JACOPO ANDREINI on drums. The free-rock’n'roll music will be released soon by SanGiuseppeRec. At the same time Tomaj recorded a version of Franti’s anthem “No Future” with voice and accordion for a tribute compilation to the band.

JD ZAZIE came back from Tuned City in Tallin were she held “Framework Radio – Documentation and Production” a workshop together with Felicity Ford. This month she will perform with a quartet together with Mat Pogo, WJM and Sec_ at Burp Rendez-Vous, in a duo with Anton Mobin for Das Kleine Field Recording Festival on the 14th and at the end of the month she will have the premiere of a much awaited new turntable group called BETT 4 together with Joke Lanz, Ignaz Schick and Dawid Szczesny.

. Live in Pisa is a new cd in the Burp Publicatons MHMusic series capturing a 2006 concert by polintrumentalist Edoardo Ricci and guitar player Eugenio Sanna together with british drummer extraordinaire Roger Turner. After two legendary duo albums (Lo Scorfano Miracolato and Le Sette Premonizioni Ortofrutticole) and one album in trio with Roger Turner I Segnali Della Ritirata, all released by Burp Publications, Ricci and Sanna join forces again with Turner for Live in Pisa. A new chapter in a more than 30 years exploration on free music. Recorded by Alessandro Boscolo the cd will be available at the end of the month and distributed worldlwide in September 2011.

Two concerts in Italy for Squarcicatrici and the recording of a live album by Jacopo Andreini, Andrea Caprara, Matteo Bennici, Piero Spitilli and Andrea Belfi after recently touring Spain, France and Italy.

April the 1st at La Scighera in Milano and Saturday the 2nd at Arci blob di Arcore with Meretrix Propaganda e Gonzo Caravan.

It follows a brief conversation with Jacopo Andreini and Andrea Caprara.

Doppio live e nuovo disco per Squarcicatrici la band di Jacopo Andreini, Andrea Caprara, Matteo Bennici, Piero Spitilli e Andrea Belfi.
Sono passati 4 mesi dal loro tour in Spagna, Francia, Italia  e ritornano nei prossimi giorni con due date in Lombardia.

Il 1 aprile a La Scighera a Milano sarà anche l’occasione per registrare il secondo album, live, con pezzi nuovi, ma anche reinterpretazioni di brani dal loro primo disco Squarcicatrici, uscito nel 2009 per una cordata di etichette (Wallace Rec., Nillacat,Frigorifero, North Pole Records, SGR musiche e Burp Publications).
Sabato 2 aprile saranno all’Arci blob di Arcore in occasione del terzo anniversario dell’autogestione del circolo con Meretrix Propaganda e Gonzo Caravan.

Li abbiamo intercettati proprio qualche ora fa mentre stavano partendo alla volta di Milano e gli abbiamo chiesto un po’ di notizie sulle loro attività. Ci rispondono in accoppiata Andrea Caprara e Jacopo Andreini mentre caricano il furgone…

Il vostro primo album contava un discreto numero di partecipanti (Thollem Mcdonas, Samuele Venturin, Enrico Antonello, Uliva Velo e in un brano anche la voce di Erwan Naour) e ora state per registrare nell’assetto stabilitosi nelle ultime stagioni di concerti: Jacopo Andreini, Andrea Caprara, Matteo Bennici, Piero Spitilli e, nuova entrata (da+ di 1 anno!), Andrea Belfi alla batteria. L‘album SQUARCICATRICI ha avuto una genesi lunga e con una maglia larga sui generi, quali sono le attuali direzioni musicali della band in questa formazione? Cosa andrete a registrare?

Paolo Casati ci ha proposto di organizzare un concerto ad un anno dalla nostra precedente apparizione alla Scighera di Milano. Inoltre Paolo conduce un corso di tecnico del suono e registrazione live, e ci mette a disposizione uno studio mobile per l’esperienza finale dei suoi allievi. In questi anni molte persone alla fine dei concerti ci hanno detto che il live del gruppo (stabilizzatosi negli ultimi tempi con questa formazione a cinque) ha un impatto superiore al disco registrato in studio. Questa è quindi l’occasione migliore per registrare direttamente su un palco le musiche che abbiamo rodato in questi ultimi due anni di attività live in mezza europa: un misto di jazz con approccio funk, punk acustico e improvvisazione che si sta progressivamente aprendo a suoni elettroacustici ed elettronici tout court. E tanto tanto sudore.

Jacopo (Andreini) ed Andrea (Caprara) oltre ad essere i fondatori del gruppo siete anche i piloti dello studio isola Cannon Jack a Nipozzano (ricordiamo, oltre ai vostri stessi progetti, la recente produzione dell’ultimo lavoro dei Luther Blisset uscito per l’etichetta Bloody Sound, solo per citarne una). Come avete pensato di realizzare questa vostra prossima registrazione che evidentemente sarà un live?

Ci siamo interfacciati con Paolo per le questioni tecniche, e stiamo preparando in questo momento la borsa con cavetti, microfoni di supporto e quant’altro. Per le riprese, abbiamo completa fiducia in lui, poi porteremo il materiale a casa e ci lavoreremo sopra. Per noi è una sfida lavorare ad un progetto così nostro con una persona che non fa parte della nostra famiglia stretta ma che sicuramente fa parte di quella allargata - fu uno degli organizzatori del festival alla Barona, con CRAP, Nando Meet Corrosion e gli Else di Gi Gasparin per dirne una – e conosce bene tutta la banda che ruota intorno al Torchiera. E’ la prima volta che non ci troveremo dietro il banco del mixer come invece è accaduto finora per tutti gli altri album dei gruppi di cui facciamo parte Jealousy Party, Pangolinorchestra, Tsigoti, Colonial Recordings, Anarcorural agrofreejazz band e naturalmente Squarcicatrici

Mi rivolgo sempre ad entrambi: siete da anni coinvolti nel panorama delle piccole (ma agguerrite) etichette italiane, voi stessi alla testa della Frigorifero (andreini)  e della S G R (caprara), cosa ne pensate dell’attuale situazione di queste realtà in tempi di rilancio di formati quali il vinile, le k7 o cdr e nell’era del downloading? quale direzione editoriale avete (se l’avete) per questa prossima uscita?

Non abbiamo davvero alcuna idea al momento: per quanto ci riguarda adesso vogliamo fermare questo materiale su hard disk (un tempo si diceva su nastro) e sentire che sapore ha. Siamo aperti davvero a qualunque ipotesi, per ora, dal DVD video con qualche traccia audio ad un EP scaricabile, un promo da mandare in giro o tracce da usare per farle remixare alle menti creative che ci stanno più simpatiche. Ed essendo svincolati dalle leggi del mercato (se ancora di mercato si può parlare) ci possiamo permettere qualunque tipo di mossa non avendo pressioni di nessun tipo sulle spalle se non la propria voglia di indipendenza.

Tornate a fare alcuni concerti come Squarcicatrici dopo il lungo tour che alla fine del 2010 vi ha visti solcare le strade di mezza europa. Sappiamo che non avete una agenzia esterna di booking e che lavorate da soli attraverso Afoforomusicclub (prezioso strumento che raccoglie le molte attività di Jacopo Andreini e c.) per cercarvi date.  Come è stato per l’estero, che tipo di accoglienza e riscontri avete avuto in Europa rispetto all’italia?

Di questa cosa se ne occupa quasi esclusivamente Jacopo: non c’è grossa differenza, molte date si chiudono ancora per conoscenze personali pregresse, a Palermo come a Bruxelles. Più si suona in giro, più si conosce gente che potrebbe aprire nuovi canali e nuove occasioni e quindi il relativo difetto di non avere una vera agenzia si traduce intanto nella possibilità di creare rapporti umani e di amicizia più personali e diretti. Le reazioni del pubblico non sono molto differenti secondo i paesi; al limite ci siamo accorti di un certo “calore aggiunto” in belgio o in catalunia rispetto a germania o italia, ma i confini (finalmente) stanno sparendo.

Quasi l’intera line up di Squarcicatrici (a parte Thollem, che cmq è nel primo disco di S.) è nell’organico di Tsigoti, con adesso anche l’ingresso di Piero Spitilli e l’abbandono (pacifico, beninteso) di Matteo Bennici. Con questo progetto (in origine col nome Waristerror Terroriswar) avete pubblicato l’anno scorso per la gloriosa etichetta americana ESP-Disk e avete fatto decine e decine di concerti in un tour coast to coast negli stati uniti. come vi siete trovati con l’etichetta e nel suolo americano? quali i prossimi impegni per Tsigoti, oltre al tour che farete tra aprile e maggio?

Con la ESP ci siamo ritrovati in linea con le esperienze di Ornette, Ayler e Sun Ra: non un soldo di royalties. Inoltre non ci hanno dato una mano per nessuna delle cose che gli avevamo chiesto: supporto logistico (sala prove, backline) per il tour americano, nè tantomeno un aiuto sul booking o promozione radio/stampa: è stato tutto organizzato da Thollem e sono scomparsi per più di sei mesi alla fine del tour licenziando le persone con cui avevamo firmato un contratto perdendo di fatto referenti e possibilità di parlare con qualcuno per sapere cosa stesse succedendo. Se si esclude una traccia sulla compilation di The Wire il nostro rapporto è stato fallimentare.
Negli USA abbiamo percorso circa 9000km suonando 30 concerti in 18 stati differenti, passando dal museo di arte moderna di Philadelfia agli squat di Seattle, dalle radio universitarie a quelle anarchiche, da locali alla moda fino a fattorie sperdute nell’Oregon. l’esperienza umana e musicale è stata fantastica, quella economica un po’ meno, ma siamo ancora vivi e pronti a partire di nuovo, stavolta italia del sud, nord-est e Koper come unica puntata al di là del confine. abbiamo nel fattempo finito di lavorare al terzo album e stiamo cercando un’etichetta interessata a pubblicarlo. Thollem ha avuto una lunga intervista su Signal to Noise di marzo 2011 e staremo a vedere se questo potrà aiutare ad avere un poco più di visibilità sul gruppo e sul disco in uscita.
