JEALOUSY PARTY / bio – music – videos

Jealousy Party is a Berlin based abstract R&B outfit blending noise and improvisation with funk, avant rock, dub and idiosyncratic electronic collage – a fusion they term Punca.

Founded in Florence, Italy in 1995 by producers Roberta WJM Andreucci and Mat Pogo, JP keep their line-up open to variations and explorations, with multi- instrumentalist Edoardo Ricci as their main collaborator.

Right now they are active as a duo with founder members WJM and Mat Pogo on players, electronics and vocals playing metamorphic samples from the burning library of sessions that the duo recorded with an open collective of musicians involved in the Jealousy Party since years.

Those recordings are endlessly reshuffled, dubbed and remixed live with a spontaneous use of playback devices that has become one of Jealousy Party’s most crucial trademarks, in a musical frame that is never 100% improvised and never 100% fixed.

Roberta WJM Andreucci
is a percussionist, an experimental producer and DJ, and on air personality. She practices plagiarism and the cutting and mixing of musical and ambiental aural sources. Through the years her percussion set morphed into a hybrid encompassing a dj booth, a radio dj one, a microphone station for electroacustic experiments, and a mnemonic butcher’s slab. She is a founding member of performing music units such as Jealousy Party, Semerssuaq, The Secretaries and Sistemi Audiofobici Burp. She is the director of the music label Burp Publications. Among many others she pertormed with Carla Bozulich, Eugenio Sanna and Nels Cline.

Longer Bio If you really want to know more

Jealousy Party is one of the most significant creative music units in Italy and major act in the Burp Enterprise collective.
The Florence-based ensemble, even if his members are spread all around the planet, is active since 1995.

Founded by WJ Meatball and Mat Pogo, soon joined by Edoardo Ricci, JP started as Burp collective’s most radical outpost.

The open personnel based on a trio of voice/expanded percussions/wind instruments soon acquired a specific identity. These early years are documented by some publications, mainly cassettes, some tracks in underground compilations and by Now, JP’s first album, published in 2006.

After Again came out in 2008, the JP explored the possibilities of several formats, expanding from the core trio to a nine piece ensemble. This incarnation is documented by Phonometak 5, a split 10” with the american band Talibam! – published by SoundMetak and Wallace labels -, and by one track in the compilation Niente Records Vol.1. JP as a quintet is documented in Live, published in 2010.

In 2009 the trio published an album titled JP + Eugenio Sanna, produced by Burp Publications and Setola di Maiale and presented on March 2010 with an italian tour.

In 2011 JP concentrated on live performing, finding new ways to present their musical material and working in the studio. A document of this phase is Marchia Sodo, a downloadable ep recorde by the duo of Pogo and WJM and published by Burp Publications in the series I Morsi.

In 2012 JP performed live again as a duo, a trio with Edoardo Ricci, a quartet with composer/sound designer Nicolas Wiese with whom an album titled Relative Memory came out in April for Berlin based Absinth label.

In early 2013 Mercato Centrale came out for Burp Publications, a concept triple album performed as an octet  (Roberta WJM AndreucciMat PogoEdoardo RicciJacopo AndreiniAndrea CapraraJimmy GelliStefano BartoliniSimone Nicotina Castaldi).

For Christmas 2013 the Audition Records published All Yours a free downloadable album by the trio of WJM, Pogo and Ricci

In early 2014 Punca Nova, the first long player recorded as a duo, was published by the Berlin based label Das Andere Selbst on tape format.

Since then JP has toured Europe and Mexico as a duo with the exception of a short tour as a trio with Utku Tavil on drums together with norwegian power trio Moe.

Last thing published so far is a track recorded as a trio with Edoardo Ricci on soprano saxophone titled Un Altro Fiore for the Anti-Mimesis compilation by Das Andere Selbst in October 2015
