Thursday, August 4

with
Mat Pogo: actual and recorded vocal
JD Zazie: mixer, cd player
WJ Meatball: mixer, cd player
SEC_: revox tape recorder, no-input

Cuts, manipulations, fast and furious synchopation, field-recordings, musique concrète degeneré…
Burp Enterprise and Altes Finanzamt present an amazing Rendez-Vous between Berlin based Mat Pogo and JD Zazie and italian holding up WJ Meatball and SEC_. Their meeting and collaboration is quite long-aged, but for the first time the four are going to play all together.

Altes Finanzamt
Schönstedtstraße 7 – EG Neukölln 12043 Berlin Access through the yard
U7 Rathaus Neukölln (Exit Schönstedtstraße)

Mat Pogo
Born in Rome is a vocalist and graphic artist now resident in Berlin. In the 90?s he’s a founder members of the Burp Enterprise collective and Jealousy Party, one of the most advanced musical units in Italy, mixing with personal touch soul, improv, avant rock, noise and error music.

In the years he developed his own language as a singer/voice-artist using his experience as a rock singer, an improviser and radio-artist where music, sounds, anecdotic and narrative elements fuse constantly.
Beside Jealousy Party other projects he’s currently involved are Pokemachine (with Anders Hana), Penates (with JD Zazie), B Unit (with JD Zazie and Peter Schlewinski), duo collaborations with Ignaz Schick, Michael Renkel, Nicolas Wiese and DJ collective Sistemi Audiofobici Burp.

JD Zazie
JD Zazie is an italian sound artist based in Berlin with a long DJ background in radio (experimental electronic music, radio art) and live performance. Overlayering sonic textures and cutting them up with the “Äpfelzerstörer” method she explores the potentiality of DJ tools as turntable, mixer and cd players in order to build up surprising, abstract and de-contextualized sound atmospheres.

Besides her DJ/solo project she plays in such bands as Semerssuaq, Penates and B-Unit, in different combinations improvising with different musicians and with the DJ collective Sistemi Audiofobici Burp.
She has partecipated in several exhibitions, festivals and events in Europe, UK and Canada as well as bieng a member of the italian label Burp Enterprise and being active in the team.

WJ Meatball

Living in Florence, Roberta WJ Meatball is very active as musician, dj, organizer and producer. Founder member of Burp Enterpirse collective and Jealousy Party musical unit, she works with dj tools, mixing, stratching, manipulating and de-contextualizing original samples, electronic-experimental moments, musique concrete and soul-funk sketches.

She regularly plays with Jealousy Party, Semerssuaq (duo with JD Zazie), The Secretaries (with Felicity Magnan and JD Zazie) and with the DJ collective Sistemi Audiofobici Burp.

SEC_

Based in Napoli, Italy, SEC_ plays a personal system of devices composed by Revox tape recorder, no-input feedback manipulated on tape and computer. His sound research is on the edge of musique concrete and digital processing, characterized by sudden cuts, imperfect repetitions, fast passages and deep noise blasts. Fascinated by the points of contact between human and animal, in his music there’s often an obscure narrative factor obtained through the straining of sound materials, expecially in a rythmical way.

Founder of the label Toxo Records, SEC_ regularly plays with Aspec(t), highly emotional electro-acoustic duo with Mario Gabola, and Weltraum, avant-rock power trio. He is going to release his first solo composition “Music for a becoming-insect” with the Austrian radio Kunstradio, and his collaboration with Jerome Noetinger.

FRANCIS BEBEY / Akwaaba

from  Holy Warbles

Francis Bebey uses traditional African instruments and modern electronics to create a picture of the Pan-African musical experience.
Bebey released his first album in 1969. His music was primarily guitar-based, although he integrated traditional African instruments as well. His style was groundbreaking, merging Cameroonian makossa with classical guitar, jazz, and pop in a mix that could be intellectual, humorous, or serious.
In this 1985 release, composer/guitarist/singer/author Bebey used finger-piano, African flute, percussion and electric bass to draw on the whole range of African music today: traditional vocal styles (including an extraordinary “double-voice” technique), Ghanaian flute, soukous basslines. The Boston Herald called Akwaaba “one of the most amazing and beautiful records I have ever heard.”

COUNTRY TEASERS / The Pastoral – Not Rustic – World of Their Greatest Hits

from  Youngmosstongue

Country Teasers is a Scottish art punk band formed in 1993 and led by singer/guitarist / frontman and songwriter Ben Wallers.
Early Country Teasers albums were characterised by illiterate, scathingly satirical lyrics and discordant, repetitive sound through a setlist of art-damaged country and western songs.
The Pastoral – Not Rustic – World of Their Greatest Hits is the 1995 debut album by Country Teasers. The compact disc release adds “Anytime, Cowboy” and “No.1 Man” from the Crypt single, which was recorded in EdinburghScotland in 1993.

::MAIN FACTS::

SQUARCICATRICI
Jacopo Andreini‘s free music ensemble will play few gigs this month. But some special ones. If you are around Milano check the two shows at the real beginning of the month. On April the first they will play at La Scighera recording live a new album. Don’t miss it if you want to be part of it. The day after they will play directly in the belly of the berlusconian beast having a concert in Arcore‘s resistant place Arci Blob. Read more here, WJM did a short interview.

JEALOUSY PARTY
Getting ready for Mercato Centrale, the new album as an octet, mutant punca outfit JP will focus this month on his smallest versions as a duo and trio. A concert in Firenze will see WJMJimmy Gelli and Edoardo Ricci playing an electronics and reeds instrumental set at La Casa della Creatività on April the 8th. On the 23rd at N.K. Berlin JP will support OvO sharing a special evening with Ratbag + Anton Maiof and Claudio Rocchetti + Klaus Janek. JP will perform as a duo with WJM and Mat Pogo presenting new material from Mercato Centrale and their new ep Marchia Sodo out this month on the I Morsi series on Burp Publications.

TSIGOTI

After their recent US tour the quartet led by Thollem Mc Donas on piano and vocals, Andrea Caprara on drums, Jacopo Andreini on guitar and new entry Piero Spitilli on bass will present their freshly recorded new album  in their bizarre discography. A first album as Waristerror Terroriswar out for Burp Publications and Edgetone records, a second one- the first as Tsigoti- for ESP-Disk and this third one at the moment self released in cdr format. Check the tour dates here

PENATES
After their debut last summer at the Avantgarde Festival in Schiphorst JD Zazie and Mat Pogo‘s time expanding project Penates will have the premiere of their abstract/concrete cabaret piece Wait & Hope on the 28th at Altes FinanzamtBerlin during a special evening dedicated to aspects of waiting.

LAPIS NIGER
Lapis Niger is the nom de plume of Uochi Toki‘s mc Napo when he does comics and graphic stuff. Modo Infoshop just published a groundbreaking 172 pages comicbook titled Piano Immaginario – Volume Uno – introducing the multidimensional Spadari saga. Read more about it and about UT activities here and here.

As a local promoter Burp Enterprise will support this month just one but fine event in Raum 20 – Berlin on the 12th. An evening with Rubén Patiño aka Pato, a trio composed by Dieb 13, Billy Roisz, Mario De Vega, and a duo by Martin Howse and Martin Kuentz. Our beloved JD Zazie will spin records following strictly her  Äpfelzerstörermethod.
